Just ordered a Scram 440 (Scram 440 discussion)

And thank your for your reply, I appreciate it.
very nice, there is a guy in Italy who works with us and has very expensive equipment that allows him to re-program the stock ECUs.
if you send him your TB/ECU and order a 440 cylinder/piston from me you may get a much better Himalayan/Scram 411 for relatively little money.

Hello and thank you.
Please note that I have no idea what TB/ECU means (will try to get my vocabulary up to date) and that I really don't think I will make changes to the "inner" parts of the bike - to be within legal boundaries I cannot even change the standard headlight with a LED headlight. Besides I don't have any real skills in this field.
Thanks

Got the bike from the shop today

Today 5 hours at the shop, supervising some upgrades.

The handlebar position (as with all of my Himalayans) was a bit too forward and low. I tried a riser, threw that in the bin as the bolt holes did not match (made in India), then a handlebar I had bought off amazon - which turned out to have the wrong threads at the end to fit the protectors (went to the trash as well). Ultimately a Meteor handlebar came to the rescue. Should have thought of that from the start, perfect match, only the clutch cable was too short (used the meteor one).
The stock horn is OK but I like a little more convincing when I press the button - so 2 Bosch horns had to be fixed. Kinda illegal but who cares.
Then I realized the Scram does not come with a rear carrier - fortunately bc its the same frame as the Hima, the BS6 Hima carrier does fit.
The OBD2 bluetooth went under the seat, the oil thermometer was just mounted preemptively. Probably not needed in the stock configuration but this engine will become a 477 later this year, first with the stock ECU, then with a ECU adapted to 477 from our tuning guy in Italy.

Still on order are a Powerage exhaust bc the stock sound is really puny and a tacho of which I can only hope it will work. Its a 50 bucks item so 50:50 if the quality is any good.

so far so interesting ....

Funny error appeared 3 times in one day (I can delete them with my bluetooth dongle but they show up again shortly after)
when the rain stops I will have it checked at Ranjeet, could be a faulty TB/ECU unit.
Also: the engine runs hot. All my Himas had oil thermometers and would stay slightly above 70 in normal traffic. This one rushes up to 95, then goes to 100 but luckily stays there.
Bike is now at 350km total

Carbon racing is making a nice windshield for the 350 Meteor which I plan to adapt to the 440.
Here you can see it on a 411 scram

OK got this windscreen mounted. I is sold for the Meteor but fits without any modification to the Scram (both 411 and 440). The only very little "edge" is the turn signals which are touching the shield on both sides. A small incision would have solved that but I decided i did not care enough. it work fine and looks great IMO.

Did the 500km inspection. and lo and behold. our old friend known from the first version of the 2016 Himalayan reared its ugly head again: the entire droplink/swingarm mechanism was not well greased. had get out the good German marine grease and had it all fully packed.
Amazing how RE did not fix that issue in 10 years!

Revisiting the thread after 6 month. The 440 is still stock engine and the need to upgrade to 477 has gotten delayed to my return from the south india trip. Its seems a fair assessment that this model will never see the western market. Which is unfortunate.
It has become my fav bike, and my Guerrilla is just sitting in the garage and used on occasion by friends.
I will write up a more encompassing review after I did 1000km or so. The bike has 2800km on it now but thats all done in and around Rishikesh.

Certainly it has not been earmarked for Australia.
Pity because it seems to be a good improvement over the 411

improvement over BS3 and BS4 411 YES and No if its 2022 BS6. So I have tried BS3, BS4 and mine is the last iteration 2022 BS6 fusedECU/TB, didnt try the early BS6 models 2020 and 2021 which has separate ecu and TB.

So here is my review, few weeks back I went to test ride scram 440 after hearing all the reviewer's gloat about how smooth it was and this is what this 411 should have been blah blah. So in my two test runs 30km and 54km i found smoothness of the engine smooth to be on par with my 2022 h411 with 16t sprocket. The s440 has 14t sprocket one less than stock 15t of Himalayan thats why it feels snappy, pretty sure 411 would behave the same way if it was fitted with 14t, 6t gear is to just bring the revs down didnt feel much of a power in that band so performance wise too they are the same.

yeah, considering bs3 and bs4 variants mechanical clatter and NVH level on 440 seems far above, but this improvement has been present on 2022 bs6 variant as well. I found out after digging around, 2022 411 has a completely different ECU map, eligible user can go and update the map at the service center. Even 2022 h411 got another map update when scram 411 was released which has further enhanced the AFR. Havent done it myself, but will do it in couple of days if its free of cost. then will report back the improvement.

then will report back the improvement.
please do. Interesting. My BS6 was one of the first in 2021 and it already had the TB/ECU combo. I am not aware of any BS6 that actually have still the seperate eCU/TB. Is this something you heard or is this something you have actually seen? In my understanding the hardened ecu is part of the BS6 gig but I may be wrong.

Euro 5.5 spec Hunter has separate units!
:)

pretty sure 411 would behave the same way if it was fitted with 14t,
pretty sure you are wrong on this one.
the 440 has considerable more torque in low revs, but it ALSO reaches top speed of 120kmh much faster when compared to BS6 411.
you cant have it both ways. if you reduce the sprockets you get the torque but you#ll miss on top speed.

Dunno, second hand info.
;)
