J-Engine 410cc Thread

Saw a video of Gila Monster Rides having a problem with the 410cc big-bore kit. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
I replied there in the comments. look for HT. This is not related to the 410. IMO it is related to oil loss and overheating.

So the oil loss happened becourse the bike got to hot? The pressure went to high becourse off the hot wheather? Then de 410cc kit is still an option for me. Life in the Netherlands. 🙂

From what I could glean from watching all 3 videos he did change the sprocket, then had a small but unobserved oil leak at the shaft seal that at one point lead to overheating due to loss of oil which lead to cascading failures. Thats my theory at least.

My thinking is heat was a definite factor, but until he does a strip down we are guessing.
He had developed his own map( and didn't reply to a request to share it  ) he said he had it running good but how did he calculate that it was running well?
Not to over stress the importance of actually knowing how you engine is running as opposed to thinking you know how it's running but how is it possible to do without an AFR Meter ?
Readings taken from the OBD2 are guesstimations at best.
You can look at the spark plug after the fact but an AFR Meter gives a pretty good indication of how an engine is running.
Reading Oil temps doesn't tell you why it's hot and looking at a spark plug tells you how it was running just before shut down not what it was like on the hwy.
And AI probably directs you to a video by Hitchcocks :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Installed 410 two days ago. It looks promising. Haven't driven more than 80km, but I notice that the engine is stronger. Has DNA air filter and RE Precision exhaust, fuelx lite and have kept the original cam even though I have a Kent cam lying around. Will be fun to see when I get to run it in a bit. Thumbs up so far.

Hi all
Fitted the 410 big bore yesterday. Torqued the head down, went to fit the cam and discovered the chain was off the crank sprocket. Couldn't get it to loop back on, then I ran out of time.

Can the cam chain be put back on the crank sprocket without taking the head back off?

Hi Guys

My 410 is ordered and on the way for my Hunter. I also have a camshaft sitting waiting to go in but was wondering whether I should install the BB kit only and keep the rest stock while running it in? Or should I fit the camshaft anyway during the BB install?

I guess the rationale in doing one thing at a time is I can tell the effect of each part as I go along, including any running nuances etc. Downside obviously is I will have to tear the bike apart twice.

I don't intend to fit any fuelling devices, unless there is a really is a need because the stock ECU cannot manage the required parameters for the BB + Cam etc. In the UK there is also the option of getting the stock ECU remapped on the dyno by an outfit called BHP UK.

Yes, install it all. the cam will support the BB kit which will be less lean. its not dangerous without but the cam supports add. fuel supply.
None of the 410 owners so far had any problems so I guess remapping the ecu or even a PT is not necessary. The fuelx Pro Plus may be of some help but also only as added bonus, not as necessity.

also this procedure may help - and some say it is necessary, but i did not do it on my 410 Hunter nor on my 500 Meteor and both ran fine (the Meteor of course with PT4)

I agree with Sam2019, fit them both.
Pulling the engine down twice is a pain. Seeing the jump in power of both will give maximum grin factor.

you wont be dissapointed.... my hunter is fabulous now..... 410 big bore plus cam
What's your topspeed now?
I only have the cam for now but that didn't do muts.(incl airfilter and decat and16th sprocket)
Depends on the windforce i got 5 km extra becourse off the overdrive. Haven't done test with the 15 th sprocket.

My hunter can hold 75 mph/120kph on the interstate now. I can touch 85 and sometimes 90 if I lay on the tank. Running my bike with these mods: Cam/410/intake/exhaust/16t.

Realistically that's the real main benefit. The faster speeds are not what these bikes are about.
I agree, and the main reason for me ordering the BB kit and camshaft is just to give the bike a bit more performance to help me get up to speed quicker when joining traffic flow and overtaking safety. I'm hoping the bike's character remains the same but with a bit more "muscle" all round. For me that will make it the perfect bike. I tested some of the newer liquid cooled 400's+ and they just don't have that relaxing feel to them so not for me in my advancing age
:)

Your about to get a pleasant surprise ;)
Have you got the tools and a rh side cover gasket?
And Bungy cord to hold up the cam chain

Yes, I have the cam lock, crank lock, right cover gasket etc. The bike is partially stripped waiting so the tank, exhaust and coils are off
. I haven't removed the throttle body but looking at the video it can be just pulled out of the manifold and airbox at the time of removing the cylinder head and left to hang until the head is refitted.

Tracking info shows the package has been received in the UK so should be here very soon.
