I have placed an order ... (Guerrilla discussion)

Collected the new Guerilla from the dealership. Immediately it showed "external sensor malfunction" in the display. I still drove it home thinking maybe low battery from standing around a while but no, it still shows after 50km driving. So back to the shop today. Bummer!
Also: it would have been too easy to make the frame identical to the Himalayan 450. The geniuses in the design bureau managed to make the frame a few cm shorter so the pannier holder aka "saddle stay" for the 450 Hima does not fit. And they do not offer one for the Guerilla.
Handed it to my welder, He will cut and re-weld as needed.
Under the seat it looks very organized - and even a nut to take off the wheel is there - less important for tubeless I guess but why not.

Unfortunately it seems impractical to re-weld the pannier holder to mutate it from Himalayan to Guerilla. So my welder created a new one from very solid steel. The only "problem" is that the OEM panniers will not fit because RE uses thinner steel tube and the 4 rounded corners are "narrower" that what the bending tool of my welder can manage.
For my own panniers of course it does not matter as I determine where the hooks and lower attachments are placed.
I do hope that in the future RE comes around and offers those pannier holders for the Guerilla. After all it is a street bike meant to drive to work etc. and how nice would it be if one could do the grocery shopping on the way.

Hand made carriers are done. Fit my own design panniers and possibly the RE ones too (will check later).
They look good too !

RE is really saving where they can. The new owners manual is one page folded to the size of a cigarette pack.
at least the bash plate (add-on) looks solid (its metal, not plastic)

Any updates on the handling?
Not really, I mean I drove it a bit but the impressions are still the same: Near useless below 2000, lousy below 3000 and then all of a sudden the power kicks in. This is very annoying in slow traffic or when going steep uphill, both of which I need to do here on a regular basis.
Also the engine has much less plasticity - my 500 Meteor I can drive in 3rd gear from 20kmh to 60 or 70kmh - but with the 450 engine there is need for frequent gear changes.

of course if you pull up the throttle it is a rocket - which is nice for overtaking, But the difference to the tuned Meteor is not that big, so at this time I am not sure which one I like more.
 
I see it has a 42mm throttle body!
That is a big opening! It is a revver for sure.
I'd be inclined to take one for a test ride when available but doubt I would buy one.
Still thinking of a Shotgun or waiting for the 650 Classic.
I have no need for either but that is not the point, I am not getting any younger.
 
The shotgun has 250KG weight while the Guerilla has only 185. That should make up for the 7HP more power the 650 engine has.
The shotgun will be a whale to move around, but then again in AUS I guess the roads are long and unwinding :-)
Looks good though! I was slightly tempted only by the looks. But here and with my preferred playground the lousy roads of Ladakh it would be the wrong choice.

I heard thru the grapevine that "somebody" is working on a camshaft for the guerilla that will fix the no-low-torque problem. I keep my fingers crossed but won't hold my breath at the same time LOL.

Got the rear carrier (modified and adapted from a Bullet carrier) and the panniers are fixed, bash plate and OEM crash guard as well.
I do not like the crash guard though. It is way too small to protect my legs should I fall from low speed. and it has this one part going back to an attachment point near my foot which I particularity do not like. Reminds me of that awful ZANA crash guard I once had.

Rear suspension is touted as overly stiff, I expect it would soften with use but would be a killer on bad roads.
Weight can be reduced by fitting a better exhaust system which would be my first mod anyhow.
The 650 has untapped power where I imagine the Sherpa engine is close to its limits.
Shotgun reminds me of my BSA A65t in looks as does the Interceptor but perhaps the Black gloss engine is easier to keep clean.
Can always sell it if it doesn't appeal.

Trouble with having no down tubes is that to mount a real crash bar there is nothing to hold it but the engine itself.
Looks good otherwise, about the different Camshaft ,I wouldn't be expecting much, the throttle body is designed for good operation at higher revs.
The Sherpa is a high revver by design, what more can you find out about the "top end failures"?
