How to make a bigger tank for the Hima

Did not know Motos Carroñas had quite rad designs: https://carronas.com/gallery#&gid=1351967793&pid=35

Do I need more fuel than the fuel I already did not need?

Welder will work on his interpretation of our specs. We are going for a wider tank 6cm per side and also taller. He says a internal connecting pipe from left to right side is needed not to allow fuel to swamp on the left side, the only connecting area between sides is a tiny channel near the frame anchoring area.

Is he using gas welding? remember to use the special lead/tin solder after welding on top to close up the tiny channels that welding leaves or else your paint will have bubbles after a while.

He is already aware of the flaws faced by the previous attemps. He is offering warranty on his work. Tank will first be mounted on the bike with a coat of premier to detect eventual leaks that according to him should not surface. There is a lot of welding though.

I was thinking of welding a Jerry can to the Left side of the Tank when I fit a side car.
Looks like I am in good company :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Painting is the problem, don't paint it;)
the leaking fuel should slow the rusting.

He confirmed today the best method will be old school gas welding, he will then redo the seam with bronze filler, that will seal any porosity. Like you say.

Update.

It has taken well over a month to get the tank finished. A flaw in the welder's design. They opted for working their own way despite me providing the doc with @sam2019 previous experience and well, I did not dislike it, it looked massive but:

- Horn needed to be relocated
- Radiator was coming in contact with tank's edge
- The downward side extensions at the rear made it impossible to bolt the tank onto the frame
- These extensions where an almost 3 liters worth, but totally useless on the left side because I believe the pump was not going to be able to suck fuel all the way into the right side

So went back to workshop and they got rid of the extensions, currently at leaking test #2.

Looks like a turtle shell from above.

While all this is happening , someone stole your chainguard :ROFLMAO:

It took 75 days to get the tank enlargement made. Ended up with 24 exact liters. Tank is already road tested for leaks and paintes. Stickers on.

Will upload photos very soon.

I made my tank on BS3 Himalayan. Made 3 pieces and then increased by 2.5 inches. Got total of 21 litres of petrol in.
Also got epoxy coating inside done. All inclusive cost of it with damaged fuel tank was Rs.9000/-

Turned out quite nice. Congratulations. Less strips than mine. Mine was a headache. That welding seam looks nice too.

I ended up plannig up another try on the bigger tank for the Hima. Will be plunging into fiberglass works.
