Yes, absolutely all Himas in this country have had the stator replaced, some even before 12000 km (I attribute this to a lack of use by owner :p). 70000 colones after Xmas gifts is something you do not expect.

Now that is surprising! Did you check the voltage regulator too?
With beemers that was a "tandem fault", usually the stator got toasted bc of the voltage regulator!
Mechanic (which has been various Himas because the same thing) said regulator was fine after the checkup. He also mentioned from all Himas he has seen regulators where fine, faulty bobbins of bad quality. He put "American" copper wire :unsure:
 
A faulty stator is a well known thing with the carby models. I have yet to see one from the BS4 onwards.
 
OldPhart had his rewound in Australia but I do not know at what cost.

Perhaps he will inform us :)
