I got 53 fake orders within a timespan of 5 hours, all of them where "payment unsuccessful" rejected by Paypal. All had (probably fake) UK addresses.
Further research shows that many users of the Paypal "buy" button are victim of the same attack and that it ONLY involves order made with credit cards.
Unforunately PP has disabled the possibility to opt out from accepting CCs thru their interface.
Up to this point there has been no damage.
But it remains a HUGE risk for sellers like me. I already suffered twice a total loss of an expensive order when the person ordering it claimed to not have ordered it (with their CC) AFTER the goods had been delivered to him. One was in Singapore and one in Bulgaria. Both countries are now blocked from further ordering.
I am looking at alternatives to PP however that payment method is so ubiquitous that it is hard to avoid and still do sales.
I may shift to "family and friends" payments only that do not allow for reclaiming the money after the fact.
If anyone here has any idea for a useful alternative pls let me know.
