Hunter upgrade?

Of the three bikes using the new 350cc RE engine the Hunter has the best "racing" character. However 350 is 350 and in India and from RE that means serious lack of umpf. Of course doing a BIG BORE to 450 or even 500 -or rather whatever the engine body opening allows without tampering with it - crossed my mind early on. However problems with creating maps for the BS6 Hima Powertronic and the unavailability of a PT (or any other alternative ECU) for the new 350 engine kept me from entertaining such plans further. But now 2 things happened simultaneously: A Meteor with a seized piston came to the workshop so I get to measure the diameter of the opening once the cylinder is removed AND Racedynamics announced a PT for the 350 for early 2023.

So it seems there is a new game afoot!

I can see the appeal, but with only a PT on it your limited to 25% more fuel so not a 500!
Which is a pity because that would make it a Rocket.
Maybe one will turn up on fb with a bent sidecar

The replacement cylinder has not reached yet. RE supply chains seem really super slow these days, 4-6 weeks on average but sometimes even longer. we will be opening the engine only once we have the spares.

I did not follow up on that. after the abysimal bad turnover with the 477 set I am reluctant to sink money into yet another project. Its a risk I just can't take at the moment. I have smaller fish to fry and if they slip it does not break the bank. so maybe its something you would like to try, I can certainly be of assistance.

That would involve me buying a 350 to do a stock run then build on that, as much as I like the look of that Meteor I cant see it happening unless I get one very cheap and that is highly unlikely, tho not impossible, might join FB

well, no. at least not necessarily. You could be the "Elon Musk" of that project - basically remotely telling mechanics here what to do (and paying for it but Indian rates). May not be as much fun. Or maybe it is.

It is a neat looking bike for sure but I really dislike the idea of the ECU being locked up in the Throttle Body.

mmmm I like the Hunter (or HNTR as it's called here in the EU) but the locked ECU is a big no no. It's the same very reason why I bought a my 2020 himalayan instead of a euro5 new one!
Also next RE purchase is going to be a C5 500 classic chrome, just to stare at it!

Good idea if you do the staring in your living room. Outside the chrome does not last that long. I avoid Indian Chrome whenever possible.

Yes I would vouch for that, My Cozy Side Car had various chrome racks and they rusted quickly, good chrome plating costs more.

Looked at a classic today, nice but the foot pegs are cruiser style so your feet are not under your arse, no good for pot holes

At a Dealership this morning I had the shop to myself ( Saturday and school holidays ?) so I wandered around and sat on a few different bikes.
Super Meteor was a stretch to get my legs on and the Tank is as big as a football field as much as it has a super low seat height it quickly lost appeal.
Bullet 350 looks big! I sat on it and straight away found again I dont like my feet in that position and unlike the Meteor Shotgun and Hunter the Footpegs are welded to the Chassis. The Dealer told me you get used to the foot peg position ( My Mate has a Super Meteor and says the same!) but I could probably get used to having only one leg yet dont want to.
I tried the Hunter the cheapest in the range and so popular they have been reduced by 1000 aussie dollars!
Footpeg position is SPOT ON !, None of this feet up your ass backwards like a Conti or stuck out in the wind like a Meteor, salesman told me they are pretty gutless, so was my Himalayan but I fixed that!
In two minds now, the Hunter which needs modifying to get more power or the Shotgun that needs the footpegs pulled back.
Both are doable. One is A$6000 and the other is A$11700 which is easier?
